2014 TIGER/Line Shapefiles, Geodatabases, and Gazetteer Files Now Available

August 19, 2014

2014 TIGER/Line Shapefiles

The 2014 TIGER/Line Shapefiles include features and boundaries from the MAF/TIGER database as of May 2014.  This version also includes boundaries for the 2012 Economic Census.  The TIGER/Line Shapefiles contain detailed geography and features that can be used for analysis such as density and geocoding.  Each file includes extensive metadata in both the FGDC and ISO standard format including a layer description and a description of the attribute codes found in the shapefile.

2014 TIGER Geodatabases

TIGER Geodatabases are spatial extracts from the Census Bureau's MAF/TIGER database for use with Esri's ArcGIS. The geodatabases contain national coverage (for geographic boundaries or features) or state coverage (boundaries within state). Selected layers available include:

  • National Blocks
  • National Roads
  • National All Edges
  • National Area and Linear Water
  • National Address Ranges

These files do not include demographic data, but they contain geographic entity codes that can be linked to the Census Bureau's 2014 demographic, economic, and socioeconomic data, available on American FactFinder.

2014 Gazetteer Files

The 2014 Census U.S. Gazetteer files for congressional districts, places, counties, county subdivisions, census tracts, American Indian areas, school districts, state legislative districts, urban areas, and ZIP Code tabulation areas (ZCTAs) are listings of each type of geography with name, code, area, and internal point coordinate.
