Spotlight on FEMP's New Technical

Assistance Portal

Mobile 9 kW Photovoltaic System at Bechler Meadows Ranger Station, Yellowstone National Park.

FEMP provided technical assistance to help Bechler Meadows Ranger Station, Yellowstone National Park build a 9kW mobile photovoltaic system.

FEMP's Technical Assistance Portal is Now Live!

FEMP is excited to announce the launch of the FEMP Technical Assistance Portal. The Portal will allow federal agencies to submit and track requests for assistance meeting their renewable energy and energy efficiency related goals. During the first phase, portal assistance is geared toward renewable energy projects. Other project types will be included in later phases.

Agencies can use the Portal to submit requests for assistance with the planning and implementation phases of projects and track the status of their requests throughout the process. The Portal enables FEMP to better monitor technical assistance requests from federal agencies, while providing information on training and opportunities for financial assistance.

Be sure to sign up for the informational webinar scheduled for August 28th at 2:00 p.m. The webinar will provide more information on what the Portal does, and who should use it and will include a live demonstration.

Click here to go to the Technical Assistance Portal and direct any Portal related questions to Patrick.Shipp@ee.doe.gov.

CEQ Releases Annual Energy and Sustainability Performance Update

Recently, the Council on Environmental Quality publicly released its annual performance scorecards which benchmark agencies' progress towards energy and sustainability goals and help them target the best opportunities to improve their energy efficiency and reduce costs in the future. Highlights from the release include:

  • Federal greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by 17 percent since 2008, the equivalent of permanently taking 1.8 million cars off the road
  • Nine percent of the federal government facility energy use is now from renewable sources, surpassing the original FY 2013 benchmark of 7.7 and ensuring progress in reaching the new goal of 20 percent renewable energy by 2020
  • Federal government potable water use was reduced by 19 percent below 2007 levels

For more information or to view agency scorecards, read the full the CEQ press release.

Energy Department and the Army Join Forces to Save Energy at Army Industrial Facilities

Four years ago, the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Energy Department (DOE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to work together to enhance national energy security and demonstrate the federal government's leadership in transitioning America toward a low carbon economy. Under the framework of the MOU, the U.S. Army has successfully collaborated with the DOE's Advance Manufacturing Office to improve the overall energy efficiency of the Army's industrial base.

The successful partnership between the Army and DOE is a great example of the potential benefits of interagency agreements. The DOD-DOE MOU will continue to support future interagency projects that will benefit our troops and increase energy efficiencies on military bases worldwide.

For the full press release and report on the collaboration, visit the Army website.
