Draft Amendment of Regulation 18E :The proposed draft amendment is to include two newly approved nutrient function claims i.e. nutrient function claims for 'Beta palmitin' and 'Mixture containing 50%(weight over weight) Galactooligosaccharide (GOS) and 50% (weight over weight) Polydextrose (PDX) in Infant Formula and Follow-up Formula.' ii. Draft Amendment of Table III of the Fifth A Schedule : The proposed draft amendment is to prescribe the minimum amount required and specific conditions for claim on 'Beta palmitin' and 'Mixture containing 50% (weight over weight) Galactooligosaccharide (GOS) and 50% (weight over weight) Polydextrose (PDX) in Infant Formula and Follow-up Formula'. The proposed amendment is intended to prohibit words that indicate grading, quality or superiority or any other words of similar meaning or implications or sound like, such as "Gold", "A+", "Plus", "Premium", "Platinum", "Pro", "Advance", "Super", "Complete", "Balance", "Unique" and "Protect" on any package of food under Regulation 389 to 391 including infant formula, follow-up formula, canned food for infants and young children and processed cereal based foods for infants and young children. i) Draft Amendment of Regulations 26A: Probiotic Cultures: The proposed draft amendment is intended to substitute the existing standards for bifido bacteria with a more general standard to allow more probiotic cultures to be added to food. ii) Draft Amendment of Twelfth A Schedule: Probiotic Cultures: The proposed draft amendment is intended to substitute the existing schedule of Permitted Bifido Bacteria which consists of only two species of bifidobacteria with more species of probiotic cultures according to their strain to allow more probiotic cultures to be added to food. New proposed regulations under the Food Regulations 1985 for "isotonic electrolyte drink" and "isotonic electrolyte drink base" as follows: Regulation 360D Isotonic Electrolyte Drink: The new proposed regulation prescribes the standard and labelling requirements for "Isotonic electrolyte drink". "Isotonic electrolyte drink" is a beverage that is formulated and represented as suitable for the rapid replacement of fluid, carbohydrates, electrolytes and minerals. It may contain carbon dioxide. Regulation 360E Isotonic Electrolyte Drink Base: The new proposed regulation prescribes the standard and labelling requirements for "Isotonic electrolyte drink base".
